The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) plans to launch a new immigration program named ‘Express Entry’. It will provide a smooth entry to qualified skilled professionals in Canada. Applications under the program will be accepted from January 2015. The scheme is inspired by a similar model first developed in New Zealand, i.e., point based system, and later adopted by Australia, i.e., SkillSelect.
Under the newly announced scheme, applicants will submit an ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) to the Canadian government. Their details and resume will be entered into a database and later Canadian recruiters/firms–seeking trained professionals from out-of-the-country–will have an easy access to applicants’ details allowing them to select suitable candidates for a job.
Aspirants will apply to express their interest in coming to the Maple Leaf Country by simply answering a series of questions about their work experience, language proficiency, professional skills, education etc. When required, the skills will be matched against the labor requirements in the nation. Candidates–who successfully meet the criteria of one of the federal economic immigration programs, subject to Express Entry–will be placed in the Express Entry pool. Applicants need to promote themselves registering with Job Bank and signaling their presence to Canadian recruiters.
