Want To Know About Requirements For Canada Express Entry Program?

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) plans to launch a new immigration program named ‘Express Entry’. It will provide a smooth entry to qualified skilled professionals in Canada. Applications under the program will be accepted from January 2015. The scheme is inspired by a similar model first developed in New Zealand, i.e., point based system, and later adopted by Australia, i.e., SkillSelect.

Under the newly announced scheme, applicants will submit an ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) to the Canadian government. Their details and resume will be entered into a database and later Canadian recruiters/firms–seeking trained professionals from out-of-the-country–will have an easy access to applicants’ details allowing them to select suitable candidates for a job.

Aspirants will apply to express their interest in coming to the Maple Leaf Country by simply answering a series of questions about their work experience, language proficiency, professional skills, education etc. When required, the skills will be matched against the labor requirements in the nation. After finding a suitable match, the CIC authorities would offer Express Entry to the prospective immigrants who have applied through:
  1. Federal Skilled Workers Program
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class Program
  1. Business Class Program
Chris Alexander—the current Immigration Minister–is of the view that the Canadian employers will be able to bring foreign workers into the country through the Express Entry system, with the objective of making them stay in the nation for a longer period.

Recently he was heard declaring that Canadian employers can bring their labor market opinion, their job offer to the Express Entry system and ensure that the professionals they need arrive in the nation as immigrants, and not as temporary foreign workers.

Through the program, the Maple Leaf Country will successfully be able to select good candidates, who are likely to achieve success in the nation, rather than being the next person in the queue. To make the plan successful initially an investment of $14 million will be made in the next two years and thereafter $4.7 million will be invested.

What are the requirements for Canada Express Entry program?

Requirements for Canada Express Entry are almost similar to the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). Here, applicants will not be entertained on the basis of first-come-first-serve-basis, rather emphasis will be on quality. Under the scheme, future immigrants will be assessed on the basis of their education, Canadian work experience, language proficiency, age and other factors that may lead to their success in the nation.

Candidates–who successfully meet the criteria of one of the federal economic immigration programs, subject to Express Entry–will be placed in the Express Entry pool. Applicants need to promote themselves registering with Job Bank and signaling their presence to Canadian recruiters.
