A typical list of functions and duties of these specialists professionals include carrying out some or all of the tasks involving
  • Patient assessment, Immobilization and traction - Evaluating seriousness of injury or ailment of people due to sickness, respiratory disorders and stress, industrial accidents, etc.
  • Trauma care that may include first aid and primary care of wounds.
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), primary respiration management - Dispensing pre-treatment emergency care to patients like oxygen therapy, spinal immobilization, bandaging and splinting
  • Oxygen dispension through different techniques - setting up and sustaining intravenous treatment (IV), using adjunctive apparatus for ventilation and circulation problems, dispensing medicines and rendering other advanced emergency dispensions to ailing people
  • Transporting and transferring sick people by air, land or water to hospital or other medical utilities for further treatment
  • Coordinating with ambulance dispatch centers, hospital personnel, police, firefighters and family members to make sure that appropriate inputs are compiled and proper treatment is dispensed
  • Keeping an account of nature of injury and ailment and intervention rendered
  • Helping hospital staff in rendering of medical dispension, if required, etc.
