Canada Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) - Selection Criteria

Off late the Canadian government has managed to put the country back on the discussion boards across the globe with completely revised Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program. Although the program in new avatar has a completely different perspective, it has many takers across the world and already thousands have been lining up at the IELTS and similar designated language test hosting agencies in order to write the mandatory language test and obtain the minimum stipulated scores in either of the official languages of the country.

The new changes aim to facilitate an easy entry to the migration seekers and also assist local employers by providing them extensive source of imported skills with proven credentials. The new skills migration system has in a way worked to resolve issues at both the ends of migration counters. On one hand, the current official friendly policy has removed the ambiguity and eased the stress off the CIC officials by removing the backlog system and incorporating provisions that improve the processing of applications and on the other this system has also worked in direction of addressing the concerns of local employers regarding the qualifications and the linguistic abilities of the new entrants.

The new Canadian Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) policy has been equipped with more objective parameters that weed out those inappropriate applicant profiles at the entry stage itself which do not fulfill the minimum requirements in terms of

  • Minimum verifiable qualifications for the nominated trade
  • Practical exposure for the relevant professional title
  • Linguistic skills in English or French

Why Changes Were Required FSW format

In the past applicability of academic qualifications compiled in the overseas varsities was always a controversial matter as the local employers did not consider these accomplishments fit for the local conditions. The employment giving agencies were not sure of the expertise and exposure the immigrants might have gained in their countries of origin and as per the local conditions those accomplishment had little or no relevance. Moreover, most of the new entrants also did not have sufficient linguistic skills to communicate effectively in the local conditions. This scenario did not leave the qualified immigrants high and dry but the local employers were also left wanting because of lack of availability of Skilled workers.

The Revised Specifications of Canadian Skills Migration Program

The completely revised FSW qualification parameters take care of all the concerns comprehensively and try to ensure that only those people qualify for the Canadian skills migration scheme who
  • Are in possession of skills and qualifications which can be correlated with the local parameters for education
  • Possess minimum relevant work exposure in the nominated occupational premise
  • Have sufficient linguistic skills in either of the official languages of the country. You need to substantiate your language skills at par with CLB / NCLC 7

The government in addition to above qualification specifications, the government of Canada has also added another essential factor into the Selection Criteria Of Federal Skilled Worker immigration scheme, i.e. the age of the applicants. Over the years, various stakeholder sectors of the Maple leaf country have requested the government to find long term solutions to the problem of ageing workforce. This North American nation has always faced an incessant issue of   deteriorating demographic composition of the skills pool of the country. A growing number of people are approaching the age of retirement and it is very essential for the government to find suitable replacements for the outgoing expertise.

New qualification parameters need applicants to deeply explore application process for the current skills migration system before deciding to place their requests for immigration.
