Appraisal Levels for Overseas Students in Australia Made Easier

In a somewhat key development, the global students—planning to present a petition, to pursue study courses at the many universities of Australia--are being reportedly told that the Assessment Level Framework for the Student Permits has been made simpler.

Since the past month, the Australian immigration body, i.e., the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), has done away with AL4 and AL5. This has been done so that the framework, at the present, consists of just three assessment levels, namely, AL1, AL2, and AL3. While the AL1 signifies the lowest immigration risk, the AL3 symbolizes the highest immigration risk.

Significantly, the improvements only influence the new student permit submissions made post March 22, 2014. And, it comes in the wake of the findings of an assessment of the Student Visa Assessment Level even as alongside the financial prerequisite for the AL3 student permit candidates has been cut-down to just one year from the earlier one-and-a-half year.

The ALs determines the level of evidentiary requirements, concerning issues, like financial capability & English language skills that a candidate ought to proffer to be given a Student Permit. The more the AL, the more are the evidentiary conditions that come into force.

But--courtesy this amendment--funds for the AL3 aspirants have to be given by the permit aspirant, or his close family-member. Before March 22, 2014, an AL3 student permit aspirant was expected to offer proof of funds from a satisfactory source, to pay for his expenditures for the initial one-and-a-half year of his stay in Oz.
